编者按:随着移动互联网、人工智能、区块链、物联网等数字智能技术的蓬勃发展,数字化逐渐成为新一代科技革命的发展核心和战略导向,以数字经济为表征的时代正在逐步到来。在数字经济背景下,企业经营环境与以往截然不同,利用数字技术提高效率、创造价值,成为企业进行数字创新、参与未来竞争的关键。现有研究已经围绕数字创新开展了一系列探索,如Technological Forecasting and Social Change中Status and digital innovation: A middle-status conformity perspective一文,基于中等地位从众视角,建立了制造企业在市场层次结构中的地位与其数字创新之间的联系。研究表明,地位高和地位低的制造企业比地位中等的制造企业更有可能参与数字创新。产业和制度条件会影响这一过程,其中行业增长会增强地位对数字创新的影响,而行业竞争和国家所有权发挥负向调节作用。又如MIS Quarterly中Connecting the Parts with the Whole: Toward an Information Ecology Theory of Digital Innovation Ecosystems一文,通过综合生态学和信息学的观点,提出信息生态学理论,确定了数字技术在提供支持不同规模生态系统的交互和创新任务所需的信息方面的几个关键功能,该理论有助于明确数字创新研究中的管理部分-整体关系、数字技术在创新中的作用,并为数字创新生态系统中和跨数字创新生态系统的多层次交互提供新见解。

Status and digital innovation: A middle-status conformity perspective

Abstract: 

What drives the digital innovation of manufacturing firms? On the basis of the middle-status conformity perspective, this study establishes a link between manufacturing firms' status in the market hierarchy and their digital innovations. Using a longitudinal dataset of Chinese listed firms from 2007 to 2017, we find that high- and low-status manufacturing firms are more likely to be involved in digital innovations than their middle-status counterparts. Industrial and institutional conditions moderate these effects such that industry growth enhances, whilst industry competition and state ownership weaken the effect of status on digital innovation. Our findings have important implications for digital innovation and status research.

什么推动了制造企业的数字创新?本研究基于中等地位从众视角,建立了制造企业在市场层次结构中的地位与其数字创新之间的联系。利用2007-2017年中国上市公司的纵向数据集,我们发现,地位高和地位低的制造企业比地位中等的制造企业更有可能参与数字创新。产业和制度条件会影响这一过程,其中行业增长会增强地位对数字创新的影响,而行业竞争和国家所有权发挥负向调节作用。我们的发现对数字创新和地位的研究具有重要意义。

Abstract: 

The remarkable connectivity and embeddedness of digital technologies enable innovations undertaken by a broad set of actors, often beyond organizational and industry boundaries, whose relationships mimic those of interdependent species in a natural ecosystem. These digital innovation ecosystems, if successful, can spawn countless innovations of substantial social and economic value, but are complex and prone to often surprising failure. Aiming to understand ecosystems as a new organizational form for digital innovations, I develop a theory that addresses an underexplored but important question: In a digital innovation ecosystem, how are the efforts of autonomous parties integrated into a coherent whole and what role do digital technologies play in this integration? By synthesizing ecological and information perspectives, this information ecology theory identifies several key functions that digital technologies serve in providing the information needed to support the interactions and tasks for innovation in ecosystems of varying scales. This theory contributes to digital innovation research new insights on managing part-whole relations, the role of digital technologies in innovation, and multilevel interactions in and across digital innovation ecosystems. The theory can also inspire the development of next-generation information systems for ecosystems as a new organizational form.

数字技术显著的连通性和嵌入性使一系列广泛的参与者能够进行创新,他们之间的关系通常超越组织和行业界限,类似自然生态系统中相互依存的物种。这些数字创新生态系统如果成功,可以催生无数具有重大社会价值和经济价值的创新,但它们很复杂,且容易出现令人意外的失败。为了将生态系统理解为数字创新的一种新的组织形式,本文提出一个理论来解决一个未被充分探索但很重要的问题:在数字创新生态系统中,自主各方的努力如何整合成一个连贯的整体,及数字技术在其中扮演什么角色?该信息生态学理论通过综合生态学和信息学的观点,确定了数字技术在提供支持不同规模生态系统的交互和创新任务所需的信息方面的几项关键作用。这一理论为数字创新研究中关于部分-整体的关系管理、数字技术在创新中的作用、数字创新生态系统内部以及跨数字创新生态系统的多层次互动等贡献了新见解。该理论还可以启发生态系统的下一代信息系统作为一种新的组织形式发展。

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fuelling a new breed of digital innovation in Human Resource Management (HRM) by creating new opportunities for complying with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) during data collection and analysis, decreasing biases, and offering targeted recommendations. However, AI is also posing challenges to organisations and key assumptions about digital innovation processes and outcomes, making it unclear how to combine AI affordances with actors, goals, and tasks. We conducted a qualitative multiple-case study in Scandinavian organisations offering HR services. Grounded theory guided our data collection and analysis. Input-Process-Output framework and affordance theory supported the analysis of specific information processing constraints and enablers. We developed a framework to explain how AI affordances enable digital innovation and address the calls about definitional boundaries between innovation processes and outcomes. We showed how AI affordances are actualised and how this leads to reontologising decision-making and providing data driven legitimisation. Our study contributes to digital innovation research by elucidating AI affordances and their actualisation in organisations. We conclude with the implications to theory and practice, limitations, and suggestions for future research.

人工智能(AI)正在推动人力资源管理(HRM)领域的新型数字创新,为数据收集和分析过程中遵守通用数据保护条例(GDPR)创造了新机会,减少了偏见并提供了有针对性的建议。然而,人工智能也对组织和数字创新过程以及成果的关键假设提出了挑战,使人们不清楚如何将人工智能功能支持与参与者、目标和任务结合起来。我们对斯堪的纳维亚提供人力资源服务的组织进行了多案例的定性研究,运用扎根理论指导数据收集和分析。输入-过程-输出框架和可供性理论支持了对特定信息加工约束和使能因素的分析。我们提出了一个框架来解释人工智能如何支持数字创新,并回应了关于界定创新过程与结果间边界的呼吁。我们展示了人工智能的使能作用是如何实现的,以及这如何导致决策重新本体化,使数据驱动合法化。我们的研究通过阐明人工智能的使能作用及其在组织中的实现,为数字创新研究做出了贡献。最后,文章对理论与实践的启示、局限性及对未来研究的建议进行了总结。
